Here are the DOs and DON\u2019Ts of preparing&nbsp;to donate blood:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DO:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Always be sure to&nbsp;<strong>drink plenty of water<\/strong>&nbsp;before donating blood!<\/li><li><strong>Eat an iron-rich meal.<\/strong>&nbsp;Eating enough iron is essential to ensuring that your hemoglobin level is right for donating. You can check out some <a href=\"https:\/\/api.stanfordbloodcenter.org\/admin\/iron-blood-donation\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"615\">tips for getting enough iron<\/a>.<\/li><li><strong>Bring your Donor ID &amp; valid photo ID.<\/strong>&nbsp;If you have donated with us before and have a Donor ID, be sure to bring it with you to your appointment. You can present your digital Donor ID card from within this app by clicking the &#8220;Me&#8221; tab and asking a team member to scan the barcode when you check in. All donors (including first-time donors) must present a valid photo ID<strong> <\/strong>to register.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DON\u2019T:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Drink alcohol.&nbsp;<\/strong>You cannot donate with any alcohol in your system, so skip Happy Hour this time.<\/li><li><strong>Eat fatty foods.<\/strong>&nbsp;Fatty foods can inhibit the tests we do on your blood after donating.<\/li><li><strong>Take aspirin (if you\u2019re<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>donating platelets).&nbsp;<\/strong>Aspirin reduces the potency and performance of your platelets, so avoid taking aspirin for 48 hours before your platelet donation.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-right is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-938471dc wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-outline is-style-outline--1\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/api.stanfordbloodcenter.org\/admin\/the-donation-process\/\">Up Next: The Donation Process \u2014&gt;<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After&nbsp;making your appointment&nbsp;to donate blood, there are a few things you can do to prepare.
